Maharashtra: Tensions were running high in Nagpur of Maharashtra, following clashes in the Mahal area after violence was reported, leading the authorities to declare a curfew.Clashes occurred when a demonstration took place calling for the demolition of the mausoleum of Aurangzeb, during which about 200 250 VHP and Bajrang Dal activists had assembled in front of the Shivaji Maharaj statue.
The situation further deteriorated when a crowd of 80-100 people packed the Bhaldarpura area, creating public nuisance and halting traffic. Police personnel were attacked, and some vehicles and homes were also damaged in the subsequent violence, which included bulk stone-pelting, fire-setting, and vandalism.

As a measure to quell the unrest, Nagpur Police Commissioner Ravinder Kumar Singal declared a curfew under Section 163 of the Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) in parts of the city, including Kotwali, Ganeshpeth, and Tehsil. The curfew shall continue till further orders.

Congress party leader Pawan Khera condemned the BJP government, saying it had lost control over law and order. He asked how disturbance could be given in a city that had 300 years of communal harmony.

The police are making efforts to achieve peace and have been given permission to close roads in areas of disturbance. The situation is yet under control, with citizens being asked by the police to remain indoors and keep movement to a minimum.
